Who am I ?

Hi, I'm Niels Schroeder, an aspiring game designer currently studying Games Production and Management at Hochschule Neu-Ulm (HNU). I am currently in my sixth semester and have already been involved in seven different game projects. My main roles in these projects were systems design and gameplay design, but since the teams were small, I also contributed to technical design, content creation, balancing, and testing. This allowed me to build a broad and practical understanding of game development.

Games have always been a huge part of my life, and turning that passion into a career felt like the natural path for me. At the same time, I often found myself frustrated by games that kept making poor design decisions over and over again, not just for me, but for many other players as well. Seeing that kind of missed potential made me want to take matters into my own hands. I believe that, in today’s fast-growing industry, games sometimes lose sight of what makes them truly great. My goal is to help change that by creating experiences that are immersive, memorable, and genuinely meaningful for players.

Shared worlds and cooperative experiences are some of the most powerful aspects of gaming. For many players, playing alongside others gives every challenge, achievement, and moment much more meaning. Exploring a world together, overcoming obstacles as a group, and creating memories with other players can turn a good game into something unforgettable. This is one of the reasons why I am especially passionate about MMORPGs. Many of us remember the golden days of World of Warcraft, a game that brought millions of players together in a way that few other games ever have. Since then, no MMORPG has truly reached the same heights. I believe there is still enormous potential to create the next generation of MMORPGs by building immersive, captivating online worlds that feel alive and bring players together in meaningful ways once again.

I enjoy working in motivated and dedicated teams, and I bring strong communication skills as well as a talent for problem-solving. My English proficiency is around B2-C1 level, and I am continuously expanding my knowledge of Unreal Engine 5.
